CIBTAC Level 4 Award in Skin Health Assessment

This course offers you the first qualification of its kind, providing advanced skin therapists and aesthetic practitioners with a superior level of diagnostic expertise – a skill which is essential to anyone working within the medispa environment.   You will learn to interpret in-depth information regarding a client’s general health and medical condition, environment or lifestyle all of which impact significantly on skin health and dysfunction.  Such issues can be identified as the underlying causes of the majority of adverse skin conditions and an understanding of such influences is crucial to your accurate assessment.

Course overview 

In addition the course teaches you how to recognise the more intricate visual indications of skin disorders, damage and disease.  We teach you how to perform a thorough zonal analysis of the skin including interpretation of key dermatological lesions and how to translate your analysis into effective and safe treatment planning.

True skin assessment goes far deeper than visual observation and understanding how to diagnose is a must for all skin specialists. Looking at environmental, nutritional and lifestyle influences will lead to recognise more intricate skin disfunction, disorder and disease

 

Entry requirements

You will need to have completed a Level 3 OFQUAL qualification in either Beauty Therapy or Facial Skin Care, or a medical qualification, or have completed a comparative regulated qualification providing transferable knowledge and skills

 

Career progression

Core of Knowledge is a mandatory unit for every Certificate and Diploma in the Level 4 programme. Once you have completed it, you will be in a great position to move on to other areas of study such as Chemical Peels, Microneedling and Blemish Removal.

 

Structure

Investigative Consultation Part One - Basic Principles

The unit is about the individual’s ability to monitor and maintain health and safety practice within a working salon/spa environment. Learners will improve their knowledge of health and safety and develop supervisory skills to enable them to carry out carry out risk assessments and monitor health and safety issues in the salon.

Investigative Consultation Part Two - Issues of Environmental and Lifestyle Influences

The consultation procedure is an essential part of any treatment in terms of building Client confidence and relationships and as such an effective and thorough approach to the consultation process lies at the heart of all good treatments. A thorough knowledge by the therapist, of a variety of methods of communicating and providing Client care is required, along with an essential understanding of how to evaluate the information gained and formulate recommendations. This unit will enable the Learner to develop their consulting skills and gain a deeper understanding of effective Client care. The Learner will also need to understand the importance of portraying a professional image in both appearance and conduct.

The basis of all confident and competent therapy treatments lies in a complete knowledge by the therapist of all the anatomical structures and systems in the area to be treated and an understanding of if, and how, they will be affected by treatment application.

Observational Analysis Part One - Skin Types

The basis of all good skin analysis lies in a complete knowledge by the Therapist of the anatomical structures and systems in the area to be treated, coupled with a thorough understanding of the abilities and functions of skincare products. This unit will enable the Learner to prepare for and provide skin analysis to meet the needs of the Client, whilst working in a safe and secure manner. This unit will assist in providing understanding of the organisational skills required, and technical processes and procedures involved in providing skin analysis.

Course delivery:

This is a distance learning qualification. The course is delivered via an e-learning portal and supporting manual. The e-learning consists of video tutorials, allowing you to work at a pace that suits your personal situation.

 

There will be a multiple choice CIBTAC final exam that will take place at your nearest Skin Philosophy Training centre

  • Final Theory Examination undertaken by our Awarding Body (CIBTAC)

The mandatory units within the qualification are assessed externally by Multiple Choice Theory paper. You will need to gain a minimum of 60% in each unit to pass.

Course duration:

 This is completely flexible but, on average, you need to allow 75+ guided learning hours plus private study time
